Dec 1, 2010 Update

Tom just called from Santa Barbara where Dad was having his cystoscopy, a procedure where they run a camera up the urethra and into the bladder. There is good news: there is no tumor or growth causing Dad’s problems. Dad does have an enlarged prostate and the doctor is hoping the medication will shrink the prostate enough to relieve the pressure Dad feels. The procedure actually stretches the urethra making it larger and that alone could help Dad feel more comfortable. Tom was with Dad during the procedure and said it was very quick and that Dad did not experience any abnormal discomfort (us guys can un-cross our legs now).

There is some scar tissue on the urethra and there was also the diagnosis of bladder diverticulum, little pockets in the bladder. The doctor was not alarmed at any of this and suggested this is normal and manageable for a man of Dad’s age. They are scheduled to recheck things in 3 months.

Most importantly, Enterprise Fish Company lived up to all the hype and was well worth the trip. I spoke with Dad and he said everything was delicious; the atmosphere was warm and friendly. They even had sweet potato fries.

Love you all,

John

Oct 28, 2009 Update

According to Dr Rose's notes Dad was seen today for an ear infection.  According to the notes Dad was non-responsive to floxin, acetasol, clotrimazole, but did respond to ciprodex.
